Eurycnema Goliath Insect - Eggs
10 x Eurycnema goliath stick insect eggs
VIC/NSW/ACT/QU/SA ONLY
They are supplied with a kit containing the bag with eggs in vermiculite substrate and a ventilated tub, just mist daily (rainwater for best result).
An absolutely incredible species of phasmid, reaching around 20/25cm in length (females) striking green and yellow colouring with vibrant red/pink wings, a personal favourite to watch in the bug lab!
The goliath stick insect is a little more complex than the spiny stick insect when keeping in captivity, they require some care when handling due to a defence response, especially with the very large females . They will rapidly spread their wings and strike out with their legs to make themselves appear threatening to a predator...now of course, these guys are plant eaters and cant really hurt humans, but the hard spines and spikes that cover their legs can hurt younger children if not handled appropriately and especially when performing these defensive moves.
*I recommend a large/extra large mesh enclosure for this species 60cm or taller is preferable, black mesh is easier to see into :)
Feed them fresh eucalyptus that has not been sprayed with pesticides (a common killer of captive phasmids) and avoid any topical flea treatments or insect sprays in the house or on your person when keeping invertebrates.
Mist daily, keep humidity up to aid with successful moults and temp should be no less than 17/18 celcius, eggs hatch best at 23 to 28 celcius, this is also the most optimal temp range for this species to thrive.
